Have you ever wondered why your makeup isn’t as flawless as you see it on actors on your favorite series or on models in those glossy magazines?

The best way to achieve a natural, flawless look with makeup is to start with healthy looking skin.

Properly preparing your skin before makeup is a sure way to achieve a radiant even finish. It makes your makeup look smoother, prettier and longer lasting.

Follow these simple steps to achieve that flawless look you’ve always desired.

  1. Even though you’ve probably  just had a bath prior  to applying your makeup, use a PH balanced  cleanser that suits your skin and thoroughly rinse it out with water, making sure no soapy residue remains. This would enhance the longevity of your makeup.
  1. Remove dulling skin cells with an exfoliator. This will provide a smoother and softer appearance of foundation. A buildup of dead skin cells will give your makeup a thick and cakey look. This ends up making your makeup appear textured and unattractive.
  1. Toner: This is not a necessary step but can provide extra cleansing as needed. This will keep your skin fresh and remove remaining traces of impurities.
  1. Hydrate your skin using a moisturizer. Your skin needs to be nourished because as we get older our skin loses elasticity, so applying cream helps to prevent damage. Choose a moisturizer according to your skin type. You will know it’s too heavy for you (or that you have over applied) if your face still feels greasy after about five minutes.

Tip: Multitask and use a moisturizer with SPF (Sun Protection Factor)

  1. Finally, to ensure your makeup doesn’t slip and slide all day, use a face primer. A silicone based one is a great option. This fills in creases and crevices so foundation and powder will not seep in and make them more obvious.

It also acts like a physical barrier, keeping moisturizer and your skin’s oils from mixing with makeup.

*After you have followed the preparation steps, wait at least 10 minutes before applying makeup. This will allow the products to seep into your skin and give you the best possible results.

* Living a healthy lifestyle will also help your skin. Drink lots of water and get enough sleep.

*If you already have a regular skincare routine, just go ahead to hydrate your skin before makeup application.

If you were not doing any of these before your makeup application, give it a try and notice a whole lot of difference. You may want to invest in any of these products with expert advice from your beautician.

Stay healthy and beautiful always.
